Underwater 3 – An Old Friend from South America
The third dye in the underwater theme is inspired by the Neon Tetra, also known as the Red Neon – a fish many are familiar with from their home aquariums. In fact, the wild form also originates from the Rio Putumayo
This colorful fish captivates with its high-contrast alternation between red and blue.
However, these colors are not only aesthetically pleasing but also serve a deeper purpose. In the dim light conditions of densely vegetated blackwater rivers, the reflective play of colors makes it harder for predators to spot the fish.
Behavior and Lifestyle
Neon Tetras are schooling fish that usually move in groups of several dozens to hundreds of individuals. This schooling behavior has several advantages: it offers protection from predators and makes it easier to find food. In the dark waters of the Rio Putumayo, a school of Neon Tetras, with its synchronous play of colors, can appear like a living ribbon of light.
