Charity Dye in support of kila mtoto
In 2026, the kanga is the inspiration behind our charity dye initiative: this is a colourfully printed cotton fabric and is as much a part of everyday life in Kenya as almost any other item of clothing. You can find all the information about kangas and our charity dye initiative on the blog.
Alte Künste supports the charity kila mtoto through its annual charity dye initiative.
For every 100g skein of the charity dye, we donate €5, and for every 150g skein, we donate €7 to kila mtoto. This is why the charity dyes carry a small price premium compared to our standard dyes. Alte Künste covers the difference to make up the €5 or €7.
There are 7 yarn bases to choose from. All yarns are mulesing-free.
The 2026 Charity Dye-off will be available all year round!
What the donations from the Charity Dye achieve:
This year, we’re donating towards school meals at the Rabai Hope Nursery School.
€5 provides one breakfast for all 60 children.
€7 provides either eggs or bananas for a whole class (30 children).
3 × €5
€35 provides one lunch for all the children at Rabai Hope Nursery School.
‘Kila mtoto’ is Swahili for ‘every child’, and the charity kila mtoto supports children and families in Rabai – a very poor area near Mombasa on the Kenyan coast. The organisation enables children to attend school and helps families to become self-sufficient through sustainable farming and to build up a small, reliable income. You can find more information about kila mtoto and our charity dye on the blog.
We try to display the colours as true to life as possible, but colour representation may vary from monitor to monitor.
